Continuity is the key; Start On and Stay On the same levothyroxine.
The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) recommends that once you start on a specific levothyroxine sodium, you should stay on that same product.
Changing your prescription could be inconvenient—and costly.
Any changes in your medication may require you to pay for new lab tests to recheck your TSH levels. Plus, if you are switched from Levoxyl®, additional doctor visits may be necessary to monitor your TSH levels.
Levoxyl® is indicated for thyroid hormone replacement or supplemental therapy for hypothyroidism. Levoxyl® is contraindicated in patients with untreated thyrotoxicosis, acute myocardial infarction, uncorrected adrenal insufficiency, or hypersensitivity to any of its inactive ingredients.
Adverse reactions are primarily those of hyperthyroidism due to therapeutic overdose. Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease.
